CPD – Teaching KS2 Primary Singing for the (Terrified!) Non-Specialist – Part 2: Singing Games

Date: Thursday 21th June 2018

Time: 4.30pm-6.00pm

Where: Calderdale Music Trust at Heath Unit 5, Heath Campus, Free School Ln, Halifax HX1 2PS

Cost: £15

Objective: To equip participants with tips, techniques and resources for delivering singing games in the classroom and across the school.

Course Description:

Delivering different aspects of music education can become challenging for a teacher and somewhat repetitive after time. Musical games are great for inspiring, bringing out creativity and encouraging both the teacher and children. Children love to play games especially when there is an enthusiastic adult playing along with them. This CPD session will demonstrate a variety of singing games that can energise, develop and bring together children in the classroom.

Singing games are not designed to be competitive with one another but are there to help aid development of basic musical skills, creativity, social skills and personal skills. These are developed through a mixture of songs, rhythm skills, communication, recordings and fun activities. Singing games can be adapted to meet the needs of each classroom and are particularly good for including children within larger groups.

Outcomes:

  • Teachers will have the ability to incorporate musical games into the curriculum.
  • Teachers will leave with increased skills and confidence to teach musical games.
  • Teachers will understand why musical games are important.
  • Teachers will leave with a wealth of singing game related resources.

Refreshments will be available from 4.00pm and throughout the session. Participants will also receive a resource pack upon arrival that is intended for use throughout the course and for within the classroom.
