The guitar department of the Music Trust is going from strength to strength, and we are developing many exciting new ventures and projects. Our ethos is one of fun, but with clearly defined and structured routes to enable pupils to progress at an appropriate pace whilst giving opportunities to extend their musical knowledge and performance skills.
Our guitar tutors have a wealth of experience in all fields of performance, teaching and ensemble training.
What we offer
The guitar department currently offers tuition in whole class (first access), small group and individual settings. We work in the majority of schools in Calderdale and are also able to accommodate pupils from outside the area at Heath Campus in the evenings.
Lessons are available on the following instruments:
The Music Trust currently has various ensembles involving our guitar/ukulele students including:
- Junior Guitar Ensemble
- Calderdale Youth Guitar Ensemble
- Folk Group
- Saturday Guitar Ensemble
Many schools also have ensembles and small groups which are constantly being developed.
Pupils are introduced to a wide variety of musical styles and genres which constantly challenge and extend pupils’ ability in performance and musical theory. Teaching is intended to be engaging and interactive, with lots of opportunities for performance, peer assessment and incorporates the use of study books, newly composed music and the use of interactive ICT based software.
Examples include music from the genres of jazz, blues, pop, musicals, rock, as well as targeted performance opportunities to link with school themes and celebration events such as Easter and Christmas.
